Alaska Black Diamond |
New Bear Mother Totem Pole |
|
|
| NOTES: |
The Bear Mother totem is hand carved and painted from old growth Native yellow cedar grown deep in the rain forests of Southeast Alaska and tells the legend of a bear mother losing her cub only to discover he has transformed into a soon to be human chief.
MEASURES: 13 inches tall and 8 inches at wing-span
For four days the crashing of the brush could be heard as Bear Mother searched for her lost cub. Knowing he had the ability to transform, she was afraid she might not recognize him. Eagle came to her and told her of a brave new man who was to be trained to lead the neighboring village. He beckoned her to come at once to view the ongoing ceremonies. She follows Eagle to the village in hopes that this new brave man could help her find her son. As they approached, Bear Mother is alerted to a familiar sound. The quicken their pace until before them stands the chief to be, who Bear Mother recognizes at once to be her son.
Hand made in Ward Cove, Alaska
Alaska totem poles are etchings in wood, stories told around mystical campfires, legends of hunting experiences, historical events, family relationships and love stories. |
