|If you want something contemporary, sexy, and absolutely woody, Hinoki is probably going to be your best bet. It's quite non-traditional for a body fragrance, but it's a scent most of us will smell and recognize from one place or another in our past. Modeled after the scent of the Japanese Hinoki cypress used in spiritual and spa arrangements, namely the Hinoki wood soaking bath, the scent is reminiscent of cedar, though it's as if CDG took each element of your run-of-the-mill cedar, then significantly improved the quality of each element and amplified them. The result is an incense-y wood fragrance that's chock full of character. Notes of thyme and pine open the fragrance, given an especially crisp edge by a mix of turpentine and camphor that rides the line between paint thinner and animal muskiness, though the scent is kept from ever leaning too musky from all of the wood that goes into it (Pine, Cedar, Cypress, Georgian Woods). Incense plays a vital role here, ever so slightly softening the mixture, though more importantly complimenting beautifully the crisp, lemony wood notes with a bit of resinous personality. Around the middle of the scent, the moss becomes apparent, providing much needed earthy-green contrast. Also lending it's earthy-green nature to the fragrance is vetiver, serving as a sturdy foundation for the rest of the notes and revealing it's rooty warmth in the dry-down. That rooty warmth, however, never steals the spotlight from the wood focus, acting as an accent even in the base of the fragrance to the bouquet of woods that dominate Hinoki. For wood lovers, fragrance lovers, Monocle lovers, and just plain lovers, Hinoki is without-a-doubt an all-time Blackbird favorite.
