Do Son comes from a childhood memory of Yves Coueslant, one third of Diptyque. As a child he lived in Haiphong, Vietnam with his mother, who had a tough time with the climate and spent much of her time relaxing. One of the things in her life that brought her joy was the nostalgic scent of tuberose. The tuberose fragrance arranged here in Do Son evokes a similar wistful air to that experienced by Yves' mother, very light and soft rather than intense and sticky as tuberose an sometimes become. Nuanced and extremely pleasant to smell, Do Son is a tuberose scent through-and-through, dressed very gently with orange tree leaves for a hint of green and rose berries for a touch of fruity bitter-sweet. I say gently because these accents really are quite subtle, like the iris, which boosts the tuberose while remaining in the background. What interests me most about this tuberose's composition is the resin-y note of benzoin that mixes so well with the light, visceral note of white musk. There's a slight contrast there that's almost unnoticeable, but really makes this scent shine. Do Son is an elegant and delicate tuberose that's perfect for Spring but stays in my cabinet all year round.

United by a passion for creativity and design, three artisans became friends and partners. They opened a shop at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain to showcase their avant-garde fabric designs and decorative items from their travels. The trio offered colored candles to match their fabrics, adding perfumed wax. Customers fell in love with the inimitable fragrances. Word traveled. Their cachet grew. In 1963, they introduced the first Diptyque scented candle. In 1968, the first line of Diptyque fragrances was launched. Today, the three Parisian artists are world-renowned purveyors of fragrance and scented candles. |
