You see a tree that's unlike any you've ever seen before. It looks
almost like the orange tree you had in your yard as a child, but the
fruits are all different sizes and colors. As you get closer, you're
able to see all kinds of citrus, from grapefruit to lemon to lime,
orange to mandarin, even yuzu, an East Asian citrus fruit similar to a
mandarin with uneven green and yellow skin. You crawl into the tree
and you're overwhelmed by the onslaught of hesperidian scents
engulfing your entire body, but not in a bad way. There's a smile on
your face, the sun is high in the sky, and as you relax in the tree,
you're overcome with joy. This is the scent of Oyedo, Diptyque's
citrus bouquet that derives its name from an ancient name for the city
of Tokyo. The wood you smell among the citrus is not petitgrain, the
oil extracted from orange tree wood, but a very subtle cedar. Thyme
and mint add a light, almost menthol accent to the citrus, spiced just
a bit more by tamarind. The end product is a sugared and citrusy scent
perfect for dull Winter nights and Summer days bursting with energy.
Oyedo is the perfect antidote to rouse anyone from even the most
lethargic of their doldrums. Oyedo is, above all else, a happy scent.

Made in France
United by a passion for creativity and design, three artisans became friends and partners. They opened a shop at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain to showcase their avant-garde fabric designs and decorative items from their travels. The trio offered colored candles to match their fabrics, adding perfumed wax. Customers fell in love with the inimitable fragrances. Word traveled. Their cachet grew. In 1963, they introduced the first Diptyque scented candle. In 1968, the first line of Diptyque fragrances was launched. Today, the three Parisian artists are world-renowned purveyors of fragrance and scented candles. |
